Desjardins Farm in 1956

Our ancestors Paul and Lydia Desjardins established the homestead in 1905. Their only possession was an axe, a cow and a barrel of fat.

A small farmer, he grew mostly buckwheat and hay on 17 acres.

He then sold his farm to his son Gerard and his wife Lauria in 1944.

Gerard was a hard worker and specialized in growing potatoes. During the beginning of the 1950’s, he started growing seed potatoes and shipping them into Quebec.

In 1975 he sold to his son Reginald and his wife Jeanelle. Keeping in the same tradition as his father, Reginald sold mostly seed not only in Quebec but also in Ontario, PEI, Nova Scotia, Alberta, Manitoba, the United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico to name a few.

In the early 1990’s Denis and Rene started to work full time with their parents. In 2001 Fermes Semences Desjardins Seed Farms LTD was established which is a partnership between Reginald, Jeanell, Denis and Rene.
